Art Baird Pottery

Art Baird has been designing and producing wheel-thrown and hand-built stoneware for over 30 years. He creates functional ware for the home, plus birdfeeders, hummingbird feeders, and planters for the garden. Art's studio and home are in an historic country village just west of the Adirondacks and at the southern boundary of the Tug Hill region. The sights, textures, and rhythms of the natural world in the family garden, in the woods near their home, and in the Adirondack wilderness shape the way Art thinks about his work.

Products by Art Baird Pottery

Art Baird mixes his own clay and glazes, and also builds and repairs his kilns because he believes that mastery of every aspect of ceramics from raw materials to finished pieces is essential to being a potter. Art fires his pots at 2300 degrees F in a 45 cubic foot downdraft gas kiln. He likes high temperature reduction firing because you never have complete control of how the flame affects the pieces - there is always an element of mystery. When Art opens the kiln, there will be surprising discoveries.
