Items of Wood owner Kenneth Evans is a chemisty teacher by profession who began to do woodworking as a relaxing hobby. Although current demand for his wood creations has Kenneth spending more time on his hobby, each item is still created personally by an artist who enjoys the pleasure of working in wood. Kenneth teaches woodturning and demonstrates it to interested groups, has had articles published related to woodturning, and is a member of several woodworking associations.

Each one-of-a-kind item is created by combining the artistic sensibility required in the design process, careful selection of a piece of wood, and the ability to handcraft each piece using a lathe - unique among woodworking machines because it spins the wood while the operator holds a cutting tool in hand. Thus, the craftsmanship of the lathe operator is applied to a carefully selected piece of wood to produce the envisioned piece. The artist loves the work and the process, and only adds his signature to an item if it pleases him completely.
